bio:

We first began designing and making our own products in 1999, selling at markets until opening our own shop “honeybee” in 2006 where we specialize in ethical, sustainable, Australian made and fair trade products. Although our jewellery and clocks have always played a major role in our shop they have now grown into their own entity, particularly with sales online. We love making things and have dabbled in all sorts of materials, from ceramics to acrylic and everything in-between. Over the past few years we have been working with stainless steel and drawn into creating jewellery that has a real sense of nostalgia. I guess that comes from our love of vintage books, prints, ceramics and furniture. Our aim is to really capture that mystique of a good story, those sunburnt days of youth and the simplicity of childhood. Using very simple techniques we create each design by first hand drawing each image on paper then cutting them out with a sharp blade until finally turning them into the stainless steel jewellery that you see here. With each design having its own story and meaning. While our clocks we make using different a technique and concentrate on using negative space. Taking the silhouette from photographs of real animals and placing them into the clock design in a way that hopefully displays a sense of whimsy and humour. While you’re here you also might notice that we have tried to include a little more behind the scene information about each piece, some of the problems we faced and how we reached the final designs. If you have any comments or ideas, send us an email, we’d love to hear from you. Kyle Roddenby and Wyan McAllister
