Laetitia Hoffmann website: http://www.laetitia-art-design.com.au blog: http://laetitia-art-design.com.au/blog/ bio: I was born 39 years ago in Strasbourg (North East of France) where I grew up, reared by the sound of my immigrant mother’s stories who gave me the love of travels and distant horizons. Attracted by the arts since my youth, I studied art and its history at Strasbourg’s Faculty which allowed me to teach art to high school children for 2 years, before retraining myself into a graphic and web designer. I came in Australia 11 years ago after travelling the world, that was the outcome of all my dreams. I am a visual artist strongly inspired by the spanish, african and asian cultures in their tribal aspects. From there, everything is related to the body and its shapes. By nature I'm curious and like exploring all sorts of media going from painting to digital drawing, from linocut printing to sewing, from photography to mosaic! After a couple of trips to Japan I developped a passion for kimonos. Making and wearing kimonos. Kimonos are the simplest garment to make yet the most time consuming as most of the seams are made by hand (if you follow the traditional way). I have also been looking at how kimonos used to be made centuries ago. Strangely Yogi (sleeping Kimono) looked like the one I have made of recycled jeans! For many years I have been a fervent adept of recycling things at home that is why the idea came up of designing kimonos made of recycled materiel and organic fabric. |
